top 10 department stores in London

House of Fraser-
Since changing hands in 2006, the House of Fraser chain has seen a major shake-up. This flagship store is keen to usurp condescending Oxford Street neighbours John Lewis and Selfridges as the king of the department stores. Well it hasn't quite happened yet, but House of Fraser has got a better selection of designs than ever. The focus remains on clothes and beauty, although the homeware section is fairly extensive these days too.

There are over 60 branches of House of Fraser across the UK. I find this store strangely a bit intimidating as it tries hard to do the 'designer thing' but will never be as good as Selfridges or Harvey Nichols. Nevertheless, it's a popular store and has a great clothing range called 'Linea'.

Address: House of Fraser, 318 Oxford Street, London W1C 1HF.

Opening Times-
Mon to Wed, Sat 10:00 -20:00, Thu & Fri 10:00 - 21:00, Sun 11:30 - 18:00
